We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist, who will participate in EU funded research projects in the field of Materials Science. Specifically, the successful candidate will get involved in Data Science tasks and applications in Materials Science. The job role includes the supervision of junior colleagues, as well as the collaboration with IRES domain teams.

Job’s profile:

  • Undertake Data Science tasks and assist in related day-to-day activities
  • Ensure smooth running of funded projects & support junior team members with their projects.
  • Attend project meetings and present research progress
  • Communicate on daily basis with project partners
  • Write detailed reports and project deliverables
  • Contribute to the writing of research proposals to secure future funding
  • Carry out research activities and come up with innovative ideas
  • Collaborate with the other teams (Materials Scientists) and identify new growth possibilities through AI/Machine Learning
  • Provide advice and support to colleagues to resolve challenges

Key requirements:

  • Degree in quantitative field (e.g. Chemical Engineering or relevant, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or any other related field)
  • MSc in Data Science or relevant field (PhD is a great plus)
  • Demonstrated experience in Machine Learning (at least 3 years)
  • Experience with open source machine learning packages, such as Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow.
  • Data programming (Python or any other scripting language)
  • Data Visualization (either software or scripting)
  • Understanding of relational Databases and SQL
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude and facility with algorithmic thinking
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language (written and oral)
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Eager to explore new ideas and align innovation activities with business growth opportunities
  • Ability to travel abroad (currently no travelling due to the pandemic)

It would be a plus to have:

  • Background in mechanical/chemical/material engineering
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing
  • Basic knowledge on Ontology principles and development
  • Personal network of research or business partners
