TwinAIR aims to improve urban life by tackling the challenge of indoor air quality (IAQ) improvement by understating its complex interrelationship with external factors. This is achieved by introducing a novel set of tools for identifying sources and tracing a variety of pollutants and pathogens, for enhancing understanding of their effects and assessing their impact on health, for controlling building management systems and services in ways that mitigate part of the impacts and for helping citizens to develop better insights into pollution impacts, along with encouraging healthier, more sustainable choices.

The project aims at better understanding the environmental impact of pharmaceutical compounds, throughout their lifecycle, and contributing to scientific knowledge, in order to adapt existing regulation & processes. It aims to offer (via extensive monitoring campaigns & scientific studies) information regarding occurrence of pharmaceuticals in the environment, their persistence, environmental fate, and toxicity (via in-vitro & in-vivo models) as well as application of in-silico methods to provide information about the basic risk management and fate prediction in the environment. Brief ideas about toxicity endpoints, available ecotoxicity databases, and expert systems employed for rapid toxicity predictions of ecotoxicity of pharmaceuticals will also be taken into account, in order to have a comprehensive approach to pharmaceuticals’ Lifecycle Assessment (LCA).

During his studies he focused on the determination of mechanical and elastic properties of nanomodified materials as well as on the use of discretization methods for the simulation of structures under various loading conditions. His postgraduate thesis deals with the development of a smart gas sensor able to recognize the type and concentration of a gas stimuli by means of machine learning algorithms and artificial neural networks.

His PhD thesis was based on a generic search for exotic new particles that are hypothesized to
emerge from proton-proton collisions happening inside the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
During his collaboration with CERN, he specialized in Data Analysis developing data-driven
methodologies to estimate the statistical significance of data excesses, gained
expertise in data pruning techniques and served as coordinator between two working
groups in the CMS experiment.

Educator of Civil Engineering from the School of Pedagogical and Technological Education in Athens (Aspete). He have a Master’s Degree in Design and Construction of Underground Works from National Technological University of Athens. During his MSc he developed Artificial Neural Networks to predict the penetration rate in Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) excavations. Right now he is doing his PhD, and his dissertation revolves around developing various algorithms to predict some key parameters (Penetration Rate, Settlements) during an excavation using a TBM. Konstantinos have been involved in two papers, one in the 7th ICEGE 20019 in Rome, and one to be published in the WTC 2023 in Athens (first author). Also he have been working mostly as a freelancer thus far splitting his time between teaching engineering related courses and developing projects revolving around Big data or/and Data Science.

from the University of Piraeus and a Master’s at the University of Twente in the department of Environmental and Energy Management. Focus on sustainable development and circular economy thus, in her thesis she analyzed the carbon neutrality in a dutch wastewater treatment plant by creating a calculating tool for the estimation of biogenic and anthropogenic direct and indirect emissions. Further, her passion for circular economy led her to the creation of a research team for urban development with the utilization of wastewater in high-rise buildings. Her experience as an Environmental and technical consultant gave her knowledge on the implementation of good practices of ISO 14001. Moreover, her aim is to expand her knowledge and experience in the actual implementation of circular economy ideas at a local level.

and an MSc in Environmental Sciences, with specialization in environmental technology. Her academic background focuses mainly on biotechnology, electrochemistry and catalysis. She has researched the use of metal and microbial electrocatalysts for the conversion of carbon dioxide, via the process of Microbial Electrosynthesis. Furthermore, her expertise include the synthesis, modification and characterization of carbon nanomaterials and supported precious metal catalysts, for the selective oxidation of biobased feedstocks. She is intrigued by circular processes and combining different mechanisms to achieve synergy, in the field of environmental technology. Her research interests also include ecosystem engineering, waste valorization, and being inspired by nature for the design of innovative, sustainable processes.

During her MSc she was an expert in measuring electrochemical and mechanical properties of nanoenhanced cement specimens with the use of nondestructive methods and furthermore under
hydrostatic pressure conditions, in order to estimate the behaviour of nano-materials. Her diploma
thesis was pertained to the quality control of nano-enhanced cement specimens, corroded and
noncorroded aluminum with the use of destructive and nondestructive methods of Digital Image
Correlation and Acoustic Emission. She mainly focuses on the behaviour of advanced materials.

from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Master’s degree in Applied Hydrogeology. He is PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering at School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering the National Technical University of Athens, during which he developed a modeling algorithm for the natural resources’s economic assessment. He has published articles for the quantitative & qualitative analysis of the degradation status of the aquifer systems in the Advances in the Research of Aquatic Environment of Springer.  He participated in the annual report of the scientific committee of the Bank of Greece on the Environmental Economic and Social Impacts of Climate Change in Greece where it was developed the formulation of the qualitative and quantitative parameters of a predicting model of the climate change impact on the ecosystems. He has worked in the Water Quality Department of EYDAP and in biowaste management projects at Polyeco group.

Having his studies focused on Statistics and Probability Theory, Stratos is further exploring innovative methodologies, such as Probabilistic Risk Assessment, that apply his knowledge to the field of Risk Assessment. Furthermore, his interests extend to Bayesian Statistics, Exposure Evaluation, Nanomaterial Characterization and Nanoparticle Dispersion Modelling.

from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands). During her MSc studies, she specialized in the field of Biomaterials and Tissue Biomechanics. Her MSc thesis project dealt with large bone implants for osteochondral regeneration, fabrication and ex-vivo testing. Joanna has expertise in Additive Manufacturing techniques and Biofabrication. Moreover, in IRES company, she will engage in Risk and Safety assessment and Nanoparticle Dispersion Modelling. Joanna is also interested in research fields such as engineered biomaterials, mechanical characterization of biomaterials, computational mechanics, and regenerative medicine.

George, holds a BSc in Chemistry…

from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MSc in Materials Science and Technology from the National Technical University of Athens. He received his PhD from the University of Crete. His PhD research work was carried out mainly in FORTH, in Crete, where he gained significant experience in the colloidal synthesis of functional, magnetic nanocrystals, focusing on the use of advanced characterization techniques and the capabilities offered at large-scale facilities to understand the structure-related properties of these materials. Throughout his academic years in universities and research institutes in Greece and abroad he developed a great interest in novel materials and has been always fascinated by innovation and emerging technologies. He has been also involved in Quality Control methodologies and related work in industrial environments. His research interests include nanotechnology, nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, Pair Distribution Function (PDF) analysis from Synchrotron radiation, hybrid nanocrystals (core@shell), magnetic phenomena in nanocrystals and magnetic hyperthermia.
